Applicability investigation study for the Directive 92/43/EEC requirements
This study was elaborated by our company’s partners, in order to examine the implementation of european legal framework and especially of the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC requirements “on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora”, related to the protection and conservation of native protected sepcies and habitats. In more detail, the research tergeted the important species of fauna and flora and the priority habitats, for the areas that the road axis comes across, as well as for the areas that could be environmentally affected by its operation
Environment: We elaborated an extensive research, analysis and description of potential impacts due to the operation of the transport highway on protected species of fauna – especially on large mammals- identified in its extent and listed in the Annexes of EU Directive 92/43/EEC “on the protection of native flora and fauna.” Moreover, the impacts on important species of native flora and on important habitats were evaluated, especially of these listed in the relevant Directive and identified in the respective regions. Our assistance was critical for the protection and conservation of sensitive and protected environmental factors, leading to the proposal of mitigation measures for an integrated protection of the projects’ area adjacent environment.
Sustainability: We estimated the coherence of protected Natura 2000 sites from which the linear work comes across and we proposed mitigation measures to address the potential impacts due to the highways’ operation. Additionally we proposed measures in order to preserve the coherence of the relevant protected and sensitive areas, in the context of faunas’ free transportation among them, resulting in significant impact on the ecological sustainability of these areas.
